cash fever puzzle

I have had a fab day, spending a few hours in Cash Generator, this is the place to pick up 5 CDs for £3.00. So if you have the patience to scrub around in the boxes throwing aside Louise, Hearsay, Boyzone and the dreaded SClub7 you can unearth some diamonds. Today I got for my three quid
Essential Pavarotti 2
Charles Aznavour Plus Blue.....
Dorothy Love Coates and the Original Gospel Harmonettes Get on Board
Disco Fever vol 3
Daydream various artists.
This last one includes Mungo Jerry's Lady Rose, an old favourite. I am totally puzzled by folks buying stuff at full price, anyway, I am indeed 'just and old anorak' and like nothing better than getting a bargain.
Leith Walk has a few second hand book shops as well, which I took a deek into. However, most of the stuff was in the Jeffery Archer and Sydney Sheldon vein so gave that a big miss. I once tried to read a Jackie Collins and gave up on page 11 through boredom.I am currently reading Brian Wilson's autobiography. This is one great read, RECOMMENDED.
Here is an old hombre, 'the Baron of Country Music' Dick Curless. I love the sound of his voice, and this is a cracker.
Dick Curless Crazy Heart mp3
I have just had a look on CMT and here is the link for streaming his 'Drag'em of the Interstate. Sock it to'em' Best of Dick Curless.During his career he had a total of 22 hits and even became a born again Christian in his autumn years. However, despite this his material sounds as gritty as a possum up a gum tree. Check it out.

plastic fantasy marriage

What a country, what a world. I have just read that soaring numbers of young people are turning to plastic surgery as a quick route to happiness. Breast enlargement was the most popular, with men opting for a nose job. So to cheer myself up I looked for an artist that has integrity and charisma and has not had as far as I can tell a chin tuck, eye lift and bum expansion.
One of the greatest singers EVER. She had one hell of a hard life...no competition Mr Babyshambles !!!Check out her story here

Edith Piaf Enfant le Printemps mp3

I love the deep throatiness of her voice and the way she can draw me in even though my French is of the school girl variety.

I have just spotted that Eminem has remarried Kim, the woman he married more than four years ago. He fantasised about the 'bitch's' death on his 2000 hit Kim....I don't know if I could trust him myself..anyhow he may have mellowed somewhere along the road. You will be more than glad I am NOT going to post one of his tracks. Instead I will thrill you with this fab track from Ike and Tina. Their marriage sounded like hell with Tina eventually escaping with only 36 cents and a gas station credit card. The rest is history, but here they are whilst still we presume talking.

fake elvis and buddy monkeys

I listened to a radio 4 programme this morning on the way to work and it was all about this band 'the arctic monkeys' and how they were the new sound of the decade. NME are singing their praises and that they have so much free stuff available to their fans on line. This has meant they have been able to build up a fantastic fan base before the release of their first album. The outcome is that they are top of any damn charts you care to mention. Arctic Monkeys climbing high - thanks to the net Owen Gibson, media correspondent Monday October 17, 2005The Guardian
Looking good on the internet ... Arctic Monkeys
The Sheffield rock band the Arctic Monkeys release their first fully marketed single today but the group has already built a hugely devoted following by becoming one of the first to harness the power of the internet to reach young fans. Last week the band played to 2,000 fans at a sold-out London Astoria, with touts asking up to £100 a ticket. The audience sang along to every word of the single, I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor, which has yet to be released.
The speed with which they have developed a large and committed fanbase is being put down to the viral marketing effect of the internet, with fans swapping tracks with one another with the blessing of the group.
According to one estimate there are already 142 different versions of various Arctic Monkeys songs floating around on the internet, some recorded by fans at concerts. The band has only officially released one very limited edition single called Fake Tales of San Francisco.
here is the very track..enjoy..and do you think they are indeed the 'future of music???'
Arctic Monkeys Fake Tales of San Fransisco mp3

Here's someone of a more traditional bent but he is one of my favourites. His daddy wrote songs with Buddy Holly and his ma sang with Elvis, here he is in fine fettle. Now, remember, if you like the music buy the albums and support the artists.

mash surf and klezheaven

If you love Klezmer and mashups. You will definetely be in klezheaven after hearing this download. I came across it whilst surfing for 'klezmer' and didn't expect to find much on this side of the pond. Well, I was wrong. Here is GhettoPlotz, an outfit operating out of somewhere in London. The download is too long for me to give you it as an mp3 but check it out yourself.
I had a couple of emails from members Mark White and Laoise Davidson who says 'Re Klezmer, if u r interested, KlezFest is happening in London this summer. It's fantastic. I have done it for three years and u really learn a huge amount, plus u get to meet lots of people who play Klezmer both in the UK and round the world. There are a couple of people who come down from Scotland - u might already know them. For details see - http://www.jmi.org.uk/ and follow signs to KlezFest.' I might just do that!!

fiddle fire

I have been enjoying Alasdair Fraser's Calliope meets Frank mp3 A bit of 'trad' music over the last few days has been an excellent cooking companion. Must be my Scottish roots needing an airing. I have been mashing tatties in the kitchen tonight to this man blasting away at full tilt. I saw him a few years back when I Iived in Aberdeen and was a regular at the local Folk Club. Like many musicians he had to go away to become recognised. He is bigger in the States than he is in his own country.
This is from Fire and Grace released in 2004. He is accompanied by Natalie Haas on cello and a mighty fine sound they make together.
Here what he says on his website ''People may be familiar with the gorgeous, melodic cello sound, but they're surprised to learn that the cello used to comprise the rhythm section in Scottish dance bands. Natalie Haas unleashes textures and deep, powerful rhythms that drive fiddle tunes. We can 'duck and dive' around each other -- swap melody and harmony lines, and improvise on each other's rhythmic riffs. She has such a great sense of exploration and excitement for the music; it's a joy to play with her!'
Here is another fab player who I also saw in Aberdeen many moons ago at the Arts Centre.
Aly Bain La Bastringue mp3
This is from a fab recording Aly Bain and Friends that was recorded in 1989 and is worth checking out.
